Dr. Deb Brown
Hello! My name is Dr. Deb Brown, and I am the owner of Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital. I grew up on a farm in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. I knew I wanted to be a vet since I was seven years old after taking care of my first pets, a pair of lambs named Bo and Peep.
I graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN with a bachelor’s degree in biology. I continued my training at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1994.
I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine. My special interest is integrative/holistic medicine. I earned my certification in veterinary acupuncture from the Chi Institute in Florida in 2001. I have also studied Chinese herbal medicine, western herbal medicine, food therapy, and homotoxicology (bioregulatory medicine). I want to be able to heal the whole pet and not just treat the symptoms of the disease. I love helping pets and their owners!
When I’m not at work, I like spending time with my two cats, Rosebud and Diamond Sparkles. I enjoy reading suspense novels, camping, and kayaking Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes.
Dr. Blake Setness
Dr. Blake Setness was born in Park River, North Dakota and was raised in Neche, ND, located in the far northeastern portion of the state, along the Canadian border. He attended his primary school at North Border Public Schools in Pembina, ND. While growing up, Dr. Setness realized he wanted to become a veterinarian while taking care of multiple species of animals that included rabbits, birds, fish, and dogs.
Following high school, Dr. Setness attended the University of Minnesota Crookston where he graduated in 2013 with a BS in Animal Science with a pre-veterinary emphasis. While attending University of Minnesota Crookston, Dr. Setness was active in the animal science program as well as competing as a student athlete playing football. He continued his veterinary education at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2017. Since then, Dr. Setness practiced at a busy small animal clinic in Grand Forks, ND.
In his free time, Dr. Setness enjoys the outdoors, watching sporting events, hunting, and fishing, as well as spending time with his amazing wife Marie. Together, Dr. Setness and Marie love to spend time outdoors and taking care of their two dogs, Gus and Sophie, and two cats, Oliver and Franklin.
Dr. Rachel Ganske
I graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Science with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science and Minor in Marine Biology. I continued my education at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and in May of 2020 received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
My family has always been holistically oriented in our health practices, ultimately leading to my interest in pursuing alternative, integrative, and holistic medicine modalities for animals. I was certified in veterinary acupuncture for small and large animals through the Chi Institute in Florida in 2020. I plan to pursue chiropractic care, food therapy, homeopathy, nutrition response testing, and Chinese herbal therapy in the future. I truly believe that the body can do a tremendous amount of healing if given the right tools to do so. I love helping animals become the healthiest version of themselves.
When I’m not working, I love to spend time outdoors, especially in the water as I am a Scuba Divemaster. I enjoy traveling to new places and immersing myself in cultures that are unfamiliar to me. And most importantly, I love spending time with my family! Including my two dogs, Roxi and Ellie, of course.
Certified Veterinary Technician
Hi. My name is Nichole, and I am a Certified Veterinary Technician here at Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital. I graduated from Argosy University in 2011 and received certification not long afterwards. I have lived most of my life in the Cities, but I am greatly enjoying it up north in the Great Lakes area.
I have been an animal lover since a very young age. My parents always said I would rather play with my stuffed animals than any doll. I enjoyed growing up with three dogs in my family and spending my summers around my uncle’s goats and helping out a family friend with her horses.
I greatly appreciate working with Dr. Deb and all the other wonderful, caring people here at Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital.
My name is Kalli Randall, and I graduated from Ridgewater College in May 2014 from the Veterinary Technician Program. I have always had a love for animals for as long as I can remember and knew that going to school to work with animals was something I needed to do. I started working with Dr. Brown and the wonderful staff here at Pequot Animal Hospital in January 2015. My fur babies consist of my two crazy cats, Maiz and Boomer. I love spending time with my family and friends.
I am glad to say that I am part of this team and that I love my job and helping all the furry friends.
Certified Veterinary Technician
Hi, my name is Ash, and I’m a certified Veterinary Technician. I attended the Minnesota School of Business in Rochester where I graduated with my degree in veterinary technology during the winter of 2017.
My love of animals started with growing up on a farm in Northfield, MN where I acquired my own small zoo. It included everything from dogs and cats to rabbits, mice, fish, hedgehogs, and various reptiles. In October of 2021 I moved to Brainerd with my wife, our dog (Roscoe), rabbit (Foster), and 5 cats (Angel, Baby, Nugget, Neko, and Remi).
In my free time, I enjoy going for walks, cooking, drawing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Hey! My name is Sheridan and I am an assistant here at Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital. I have been fortunate enough to be able to work professionally with animals since I was 14. I used to be a trainer through the Brainerd Kennel Club with their conformation and rally classes. I showed as a junior handler and as a professional handler in American Kennel Club shows. I used to groom a variety of dog breeds in the past as well as working in an animal shelter. I am honored to say I get to add working in the medical field to my list!
I have a double major in Communication Studies as well as a minor in Conflict Management.
I enjoy riding horses, going on walks, traveling in and out of the country, being a part of theatre performances, and spending all my free time with my fiancé and my fur babies who mean the world to me.
Hi, my name is Becky Charpenter. I graduated from MSB/Globe University of St. Cloud in June 2010 with a degree in Veterinary Technology. I have loved animals my whole life and knew from a young age that I wanted to work with them. After working 11 ½ years as a zookeeper, I realized I wanted to return to the Veterinary field. I joined the Pequot Lakes Animal team in July 2021 and have loved every minute of it.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family camping, fishing, and 4-wheeling. I also love spending time with my dog Poseidon, and my 3 cats: Chaos, Aris, and Thea.
Greetings everyone! My name is Britt, and my whole working life has been spent in customer service. I most recently was a barista at Starbucks for 5 years. I have wanted to work with animals from a young age, and as of August of 2021, I accomplished that goal. I can say I am excited I made this change! I leave at the end of the day now knowing I have satisfaction in what I accomplish on a day-to-day basis. I took a chance and started online college and now have this amazing job!
It is never too late to go for something new that will make you happy.
Some fun facts about me? I love to read, play video games, listen to music, go to concerts, drink coffee and tea, and to spend time with my loved ones (including my 4 fur babies)!
Hi! My name is Michelle. I’m a senior in high-school and in my 2nd year of college through PSEO. Ever since I was born, I’ve aspired to be a veterinarian. I’m so appreciative for the team welcoming me to their family in 2019! I have a tremendous love for the welfare of animals. I care for every animal as if it were my own. While I was younger, I cared for wounded ducks, turkeys, rabbits, dogs, cats, birds, lizards, frogs, snakes, and more! With my love of animals and a passion for rescuing I’ve been blessed to have many pets I call family. For now, this includes; 14 dogs, 3 horses, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, 5 roosters, 2 ducks, and lots of fish! I’ve also had guinea pigs, a hermit crab, and mice. My favorite hobbies are horse riding and gardening. I love watching plants grow and learning what each needs to thrive just like animals.
Hi, my name is Chandler, and I was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. I first came to Minnesota in January of 2020 as a traveling Certified Surgical Technologist in the operating rooms. When the pandemic hit, I moved here permanently and took a full-time job as a CST in Aitkin. I started looking for a change in careers at the beginning of this past summer and my love for animals led me here at the end of 2021.
Since moving here I have adopted a dog, started a family, and with that gained another pup and two of the funniest and awesome step kiddos. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime and some pretty cool memories as well. Life is fast-paced but, in our house, we try to live in the moment. In my free time, I love to read a crime thriller, take our dogs Ollie and Dakota for car rides, go to the arcade with the family, explore new parts of Minnesota, play volleyball, and wake surfing or anything lake related.
I’m excited to start this next phase of my life here at Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital. As soon as you walk through the doors, you can feel how awesome of an environment it is. They really are team-oriented and it and it always feels good to be part of a team.
Hi! My name is Emily, and I attended Minnesota School of Business to study veterinary technology. I grew up south of the cities in New Prague, Minnesota. I moved to the Lakes area in 2010 for the peacefulness and scenery! I grew up helping my uncle on his sheep ranch every year in central Montana and found my love for all sorts of animals.
I started working with Dr. Deb and staff in July 2017, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am constantly learning new tips and tricks to keep my pets and our clients’ pets healthy, and it is truly rewarding. My first love is a German Shepherd mix that I adopted from Hart in 2011. Her name is Roxanne, and she is a bundle of energy and sass. My second princess is a Husky mix that I adopted from Hart in 2015. Her name is Nala, and she is very talkative and loves belly rubs. She loves anything, as long as it includes your attention! My third little devil is a wolf hybrid named Athena. She is full of spunk and will have an entire conversation with you!
I love working here with Dr. Deb and staff. I have not only gained work relationships but true friendships. I love being here to help all of our furry patients.
Hello! My name is Haddie Beard and I am a client coordinator here at Pequot Lakes Animal Hospital. My family and I have always had animals. We started out as just a normal family with one cat. Then came along a bunch of exotic animals (snakes, a tarantula, bearded dragon) and now, we live on a farm in the middle of nowhere.
When my dog, Maely was diagnosed with Parvo in 2017, I had to learn how to keep her alive. This included learning how to insert an IV and various other medical techniques. It was here when my love for animal medicine began. Just like many people, after I learned how much work becoming a veterinarian is, I ultimately decided that’s not what I wanted to do. I spent two years trying to figure it out and ended up right back here. I am now in the process of completing my Certification in Veterinary Assistance and a certificate to be a Veterinarian Technician will be soon to follow.
Working at PLAH has been an absolutely joy! I am privileged to work with amazing, knowledgeable people. I love hearing about, experiencing, and applying all that I am learning in school each day, on a practical level. Watching each and every one of your pets walk through that door is what keeps me smiling every day!
